Funds Availability Policy
Our policy is to make funds available as expeditiously as good business practices mandate. We generally make funds from checks you deposit available to you on the first business day after the day we receive your deposit. Funds from electronic direct deposits and incoming wire transfers are available to you on the same business day we receive your deposit. Deposits of cash are generally available to you immediately, except if made after the cut-off times described within, in which case they will be made available for withdrawal no later than the business day after the business day of deposit. Longer delays may apply as described within this policy.
Deposits Subject to Verification
All deposits accepted from you are subject to verification. Your account is credited for the amount shown on your deposit slip. Adjustments for errors in addition or subtraction may be posted to your account. Your account also may be adjusted for items you have in your deposit that we determine require special handling (e.g., verification of prior endorsements).
The bank considers each calendar day except Saturday, Sunday, or Federal Holiday as a “business day”. The bank considers a “banking day” as a business day upon which an office of the bank is open for substantially all of its business.
The cut-off time for receipt of deposits to a branch teller will be the earlier of the posted closing time of the branch or 4:30 P. M. Eastern Time on business day that the branch is open. For deposits made through Remote Deposit Capture (RDC) and Mobile Banking, the cut-off time is 6:00 P.M. Eastern Time Monday through Friday that is a business day. Mail deposits are considered deposited when they are received by the bank. Deposits in a night depository, lockbox, or similar facility are considered received when the deposits are removed from the facility and available for processing. Deposits made after the cut-off time or on a non-banking day are considered received no later than the next business day.
The bank does not require special deposit slips.
The bank will make funds available by 9:00 A.M. Eastern Time on the business day that they are to be available. Cash withdrawals at an ATM are limited to $750 per day.
Cash and Electronic direct deposits will be available on the day the deposit is received.
The following deposits will be available no later than the first business day following the banking day of deposit:
- Checks drawn on the U.S. Treasury and deposited to the payee’s account,
- “On Us” checks or checks that are drawn on and deposited in branches of the same institution in the same state or check processing region.
The bank will make funds available no later than the first business day after the banking day of deposit, if the deposit is made in person to an employee of the bank, or no later than the second business day if the deposit is not made in person to a bank employee for the following types of deposits:
- U.S. Postal Service money orders deposited in an account held by the payee of the check;
- Checks drawn on a Federal Reserve Bank or Federal Home Loan Bank deposited in an account held by the payee of the check; or,
- Checks drawn by a state or local governmental unit and deposited,
- In an account held by the payee of the check, or
- In a depository institution located in the same state as the governmental unit issuing the check.
Longer Delays May Apply
In some cases, we will not make all of the funds that you deposit by check available to you on the next business day after the business day of deposit. If we are not going to make all the funds from your deposit available on the next business day after the business day of deposit, we will notify you at the time you make the deposit. We will also tell you when the funds will be available. If your deposit is not made directly with one of our associates, or if we decide to take this action after you have left our banking facility, we will mail you the notice by the next business day.
If you need the funds from a deposit right away, please ask us when the funds will be available.
The bank will make the first $225 from a deposit of checks available no later than the first business day after the business day of deposit. The remaining funds from a check will be available on the second business day after the day of the deposit.
Funds you deposit by check may be delayed for a longer period under the following circumstances:
• We believe a check you deposit will not be paid.
• You deposit checks totaling more than $5,525 on any one day.
• You redeposit a check that has been returned unpaid.
• You have overdrawn your account repeatedly in the last six months.
• There is an emergency, such as failure of computer or communications equipment.
We will notify you if we delay your ability to withdraw funds for any of these reasons, and we will tell you when the funds will be available. They will generally be available no later than the 7th business day after the day of your deposit.
During the delay, the funds are unavailable, and therefore you may not withdraw the funds. If checks are presented or withdrawals made against unavailable funds, a returned item or overdraft fee may be assessed to your account and the checks may be returned unpaid.
We may refuse to accept a check for deposit if we believe the check is not collectible. In this case, you may present the check for payment directly to the paying bank or you may request us to send the item to the paying bank for collection in your name.
Special Rules for New Accounts
If you are a new customer, the following special rules may apply during the first 30 calendar days your account is open. If the funds deposited are delayed, you will be notified. Funds from electronic direct deposits to your account would be available on the day we receive the deposit. Funds from deposits of cash, wire transfers, and the first $5,525 of a day’s total deposits of cashier’s, certified, teller’s, travelers, and federal, state and local government checks would be available on the first business day after the day of your deposit if the deposit meets certain conditions. For example, the checks must be payable to you. The excess over $5,525 would be available no later than the ninth business day after the day of your deposit. If your deposit of these checks (other than a U.S. Treasury check) is not made in person to one of our employees, the first $5,525 would not be available until the second business day after the day of your deposit. Funds from all other check deposits will be available on the 9th business day after the day of deposit.
Holds on Other Funds
If the bank cashes a check that is drawn on another bank, it may withhold the availability of a corresponding amount of funds that are already in your account. Those funds will be available at the time funds from the check that was cashed would have been available if it had been deposited.
If the bank accepts for deposit a check that is drawn on another bank, it may make funds from the deposit available for withdrawal immediately but delay the availability to withdraw a corresponding amount of funds that you have on deposit in another account with the bank. The funds in your other account would then be available for withdrawal until the time periods that are described elsewhere in this policy for the type of check that is deposited.
Debit Card/ATM Authorized Transaction Holds
When you use your Debit Card or ATM Card at merchant locations, the merchant may obtain an authorization for the amount of the purchase or an authorization for an amount that is more than the final transaction. At the time the merchant obtains the authorization for the Card transaction, a hold is placed on your account for the amount of the authorization to ensure that the funds are available when the transaction is presented for payment. The funds on hold for an authorized Card transaction are not available for other uses during the hold period. If other items are presented for payment against the funds on hold, your account may be subject to a per-item penalty fee for drawing against unavailable funds.
